The Fédération Dentaire Internationale, the World Organization of Dentists celebrated its 80th anniversary in 1981. It is the oldest international health organization after the International Red Cross. The doctor and dentist Dr. Charles Godon, Dean of the Ecole Dentaire de Paris, argued that dentistry should be practiced by an autonomous profession not only in the US but also in the rest of the world. He planned the first International Congress of Dentists in 1889, the second in 1893 and the third in 1900. Together with some of his colleagues, he founded the professional organization mentioned at the 3rd International Congress of Dentists in Paris, whose Executive Council in 1901 was the first Time together. The organization of regular congresses has now been taken over by the FDI. The rapid development in the following decades document, for example, the 10,000 conference participants from 96 countries 1962 in Cologne.
