One year after the celebrations of the Republic, the Federal Economic Chamber can look back on a 60-year anniversary. The legal basis for the establishment of a Federal Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Commerce Act, the Parliament decided on 24 July 1946. Co-founder and first President of the Federal Economic Chamber was Julius Raab. With the Chamber of Commerce Act, about 130 trade associations were organizationally combined and the economic development institutes were established. Under Raab, the newly created institution became a cornerstone of Austrian economic and social policy. Julius Raab laid the foundations for the future success of the Austrian export industry with the opening of the first foreign office in 1946 in Paris. Traditional export markets were subsequently regained and rebuilt. As one of the four major interest groups, including the Austrian Trade Union Confederation, the Chamber of Labor and the Chamber of Agriculture, it contributed significantly to the reconstruction of the Austrian economy after the Second World War. The cooperation of these interest groups, mostly referred to as "social partnership" for short, is a unique instrument with meanwhile European role model effect. It is based on the conviction that objectives in economic and social policy can be better achieved by coordinated action by the major social groups in the dialogue path than by dispute conflicts with combat measures. This cooperation is being implemented in the Joint Commission, which has been uniting the top representatives of the government and the four major interest groups at one table since 1957. One of the positive consequences of efforts to achieve political compromises, for example, is the low number of strike days in Austria. With zero strike days per 1,000 employees, Austria occupies a leading position in Europe. In February 1963 Ing. Rudolf Sallinger of Julius Raab took over the presidency of the Federal Chamber of Commerce. He earned great merit in building a global foreign trade organization. The Chamber of Commerce currently operates over 100 foreign trade offices and marketing offices worldwide to support the cross-border activities of Austrian companies. The axis Sallinger - Benya, the then ÖGB President, as well as before the axis Raab - Böhm was the trust of the Austrian social partnership. With Leopold Maderthaner in the lead, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber became the spearhead for Austria's accession to the EU. In the year 2000, the Kammertag Dr. Christoph Leitl as president. From 2002 to 2006, Leitl also served as President of the European Economic Chambers (EUROCHAMBRES). In 2006, he was also elected President of the Global Chamber Platform. Chamber reform, EU enlargement and globalization are shaping this era. The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber sees itself today as a companion and opportunity broker for entrepreneurial success and wants to contribute to the fact that Austria conveys optimism for the future with its talents and talents as well as its values.
