To commemorate the 500th anniversary of the publication of the 42-line Bible by the Old Master of Black Art, Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden, called Gutenberg, the Deutsche Bundespost issues a commemorative stamp. The 42-part Bible has achieved world fame. A complete copy of this Textura Bible, now known as the Gutenberg Bible, contains two huge volumes of 324 and 317 leaves, together 641 sheets or 1282 printed pages. On each page stand two columns, the line width is about 283 mm. The size of the paper sheet, about 412 x 300 mm, approaches the standard DIN format of 42 x 29.7 cm. The approximate circulation of this book of all books is assumed to be 200, of which 165 were made on paper and 35 on parchment. There are eleven copies in Germany, five on parchment and six on paper.
