500 years Schiffer-Compagnie Stralsund On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Schiffer-Compagnie Stralsund, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes four multicolored special postage stamps with pictures of sailing ships, so-called captain's pictures. Special cancellation from September 20 to November 19, 1988 500 years Schiffer-Compagnie Stralsund - Captain's pictures The brig "Hoffnung" by Cöln / Rh. was one of the most economical sailing ships of its time, since it was to operate with little financial and human effort. It was led by the Stralsund captain G. A. Luther. In 1844 in Duisburg-Ruhrort / Rh. Built for Köllner shipowner Alexander Seidel, it was the first iron and steel ship built in Germany.
