In 1923, on the initiative of Austria, the International Criminal Police Organization was founded. It is not only world-spanning, but also known worldwide by the short name INTERPOL. The decisive factor was the need for common action against the ever more threatening international crime. Twenty states had sent 135 delegates to the founding congress in Vienna. The purpose of the organization was defined in two main points: the mutual and widespread mutual assistance of all security authorities, as well as the concern for the creation of institutions capable of successfully organizing the fight against crime. The seat became Vienna for the time being. Until the Second World War, INTERPOL became more and more important. In the war, it was abused, so in 1946 it was immediately established that INTERPOL is unconditionally prohibited from any involvement in matters of a political, military, religious or racial nature. The rapid and without any bureaucratic obstacles granted mutual support of the security directorates is a matter of course in the framework of INTERPOL today. Police authorities from far more than 100 countries support their activities, but on the other hand they make use of their assistance.
