In the foreground on the special postage stamp is the first exhibition place of the Viennese fairs, the rotunda. Twice a year, in March and in September, a large-scale exhibition was to be held here and in the abandoned former court stables in the Messepalast. Thus, on 11 September 1921, the first Viennese fair took place under the most difficult economic conditions. 200,000 visitors from home and abroad were able to examine Austrian products, and many foreign producers were thus able to gain access to the domestic market. After the autumn fair, in September 1937, the rotunda was completely destroyed by fire. The fair palace was almost completely destroyed by the war events. From 1946 on, large scale trade fair events could again be held in the newly built exhibition palace and on the exhibition grounds in the Prater.
