On July 24, 1986, the 40th anniversary of the Parliament's decision, which enacted the Law on the Establishment of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. With this - one can say it without exaggeration - epochal law was created by integration of the professional organizations at federal and provincial level as well as with the establishment of the Federal Chamber of the commercial economy that uniform, closed and compact Chamber of Commerce organization, which had not existed in Austria until then and which probably has no equal in the world today. The history of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce organization dates back to the last century. Already in 1818 a draft of a statute of the Austrian Chambers of Commerce contained the following statements: "The state administration, which wanted to settle everything, even the most difficult detail, had had the opportunity in the course of time to learn from numerous bitter disappointments that the authorities did not know everything, Therefore, most of the details of the regulations governing the economy failed to materialize, and insightful men soon came to believe that it was impossible to continue to impose in the economic field without hearing those who operate and prosper in the economic realm Have acquired experience. " This already sets out the essential principles of today's chamber of commerce organization: the public-law character, compulsory membership, the right to review bills before their decision-making and the right to collect a contribution (chamber levy). Consequently, these elements are also included in the law cited above. The essential task of today's Federal Chamber is therefore the general representation of interests of its members. As far as she takes up space with other professional groups, she has found expression in the "social partnership". This unique instrument of the Austrian "constitution of the real world" has made a not very appreciable contribution to the reconstruction of Austria after the devastation of World War II to the prosperity of the population and social peace in our country. The Federal Economic Chamber has an outstanding share of it. The Austrian Post therefore rightly dedicated a stamp to this organization on its 40th anniversary. The brand image shows a partial view of the Federal Chamber of Commerce building in Vienna.
