On October 24, 1985, the 40th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations was celebrated. Also in 1985, on the 14th of December, was the thirtieth anniversary of Austria's entry into the World Organization. Both events are of major importance for the post-war history of the world and of Austria. Especially Austria, as a neutral state, had great opportunities through its accession to help shape the development of the unifying and peace-keeping organization. Above all, neutrality as a mediating instrument during the period of the East-West conflict contributed to Austria's ten-year standing as Secretary-General of the United Nations. By 1985, Austria had provided about 20,000 troops for United Nations peacekeeping operations throughout the world. Its role as a host country for international organizations and conferences is a specific feature of Austria's position in the United Nations. The IAEA has been in Vienna since 1958 and UNIDO since 1967. Thus, in the anniversary year 1985, Austria has already been able to look back on three decades of highly successful work in the United Nations. The brand image shows the emblem of the UN and the Austrian coat of arms.
