The occasion for the event is the 30th World Conference of Boy Scouts in Munich from 15 to 19 July 1985 and the »International Year of Youth« proclaimed by the United Nations. From July 15 to 19, 1985, the 30th World Conference of the Scouting Movement will take place in Munich. This international conference meets for the first time in the Federal Republic of Germany at the invitation of the Ring of German Boy Scout Associations (RdP). In this working group, the - Federation of Scouts (Interdenominational), the - German Scout Association St. George (Catholic) and the - Association of Christian Scouts and Scouts (Evangelical) have joined forces. More than 250,000 girls and boys, young people and adult employees as leaders and executives are members of these associations. The Scouting movement, created by Lord Robert Baden Powell of England, soon after its founding in 1907, became a worldwide movement. For the members, there are no differences of nationality, religion or race. It is represented in highly developed industrialized countries as well as in the countries of the so-called Third World. The strong growth of the movement required a world-level union, the World Organization of the Scout Movement. The world organization is based in Geneva. Scout associations from 118 countries with more than 16 million members are currently recognized. The 30th World Scout Conference in 1985 in Munich will address the issue of "Scouting - orientation for today" to the question of what Scouting can do for children and adolescents in society. In intensive cooperation with UNICEF and UNESCO, such goals have already been achieved for a long time. In addition, during this conference, the 600 delegates will deepen their understanding of Scouting as an educational movement with the goal of international understanding based on peace and justice. On the occasion of the 30th World Scout Conference, the Ring of German Scout Associations will be demonstrating its long-standing commitment in the fields of work for the disabled, development policy, cooperation with children of foreign workers and representation of youth interests. In the "International Year of Youth", the 3 member associations of the Ring of German Scout Associations would like to introduce the participants of the World Conference to scouting youth work in the Federal Republic of Germany. The conference addresses another important topic: peace education and peace education. As the largest international youth organization there are ideal conditions for international understanding and international encounters. For this reason, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) received the UNESCO Peace Prize in 1981. The participants of the 30th World Scout Conference are the elected or delegated representatives of their national organizations. Because Scouting has a significant role in youth education in many countries, a number of members of these governments will participate in the conference. The Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany has taken the patronage over the 30th World Conference of the Scout Movement and will open the conference on July 15, 1985 in Munich. Personalities from politics and economics give guest lectures and are available in working groups for technical discussions. S. M. Charles XVI. Gustav King of Sweden is Honorary President of the World Scout Foundation. He is also invited to come to Munich for the concurrent Council meeting of the World Scout Foundation on the occasion of the 30th World Scout Movement Conference.
