In all fields it is evident that the founding and development of the GDR was indeed a turning point in the history of the German people. The present issue of special postage stamps aims to draw attention to some of the results of this historical development. The value of 5 Pfennig refers to the fact that with the GDR for the first time a German state of the workers and peasants was created. Above all, the working class, in addition to its function as the main productive force of society, is also the power-performing class. Members of the working class, the percentage majority of deputies, party officials and mass organizations, judicial and security staff. Almost three-quarters of the socialist intelligentsia come from working-class and peasant families. The working class, in alliance with all other working people, has a decisive and creative influence on the further development of the GDR, above all through the socialist competition and the innovator movement, which focuses on the transition of the entire national economy to intensified enlargement.
