On April 16, 1986, the thirtieth anniversary of the day on which Austria became a full member of the Council of Europe. With its accession, immediately after regaining full sovereignty, Austria committed itself to the principles of parliamentary democracy, the rule of law and human rights and expressed its willingness to participate constructively in European cooperation. The Council of Europe was founded on 5 May 1949 in London. Council of Europe bodies are the "Committee of Ministers" and the "Parliamentary Assembly". The main tasks of the Council of Europe are the preservation and development of human rights and fundamental freedoms, social and socio-economic issues, education, education and culture and youth affairs. Furthermore, protection and promotion of public health, nature conservation, environmental protection and regional planning are in the foreground.
