The stamp image of the first denomination of this special stamp series shows in oblique position the coat of arms of the Republic of Austria and the coat of arms of the province of Carinthia, above both the inscription "30th Anniversary of the Carinthian referendum". Thus, this brand refers to one of the most important events of recent Austrian history. For after the First World War, the borders of Carinthia were controversial for a long time. That is why it was decided to hold a referendum at the peace negotiations in St. Germain. The contested area was divided into zones for this purpose, in the so-called zone I (southern part) and zone II (northern part). The Carinthian referendum on October 10, 1920 brought a majority of 59.04 percent for remaining in Austria.
