Special cancellation from August 13 to October 12, 1985 2nd World Championship in Orientation Diving With the approval of the Government of the German Democratic Republic, the diving club of the GDR is the organizer of the 2nd World Championships in Orientation Diving. The best orientation divers from all over the world will take part in these World Championships in Stechlinsee in Neuglobsow in the district of Potsdam from September 3rd to 8th, 1985. These World Championships should be carried out in the spirit of peace and international understanding and meet the desire of divers from many countries for a fair sporting competition. The World Federation of Scuba Diving, Confédération mondiale des activitées subaquatiques (CMAS), honored, among other things, the internationally recognized long-term activities of the GDR in this sport by awarding the World Championships in Orientation Diving. The dipping sport club of the GDR wants to further the friendly and sportive relations to the diving federations of the participating countries and actively support the activity of the world federation of the dipping sport. The Stechlinsee, known for many years as a diving water, the hospitality of the citizens of Neuglobsow and an internationally experienced referee team offer optimal competition conditions. 10-pfennig and 70-pfennig value: Orientation divers in the competition The orientation diving is one of the competition disciplines of diving and, in contrast to the indoor disciplines finswimming and track diving, in open water. Orientation diving is not a sport for beginners, as it requires not only sports skills, but also sound diving training, which must be proven by competitors in addition to a medical certificate of fitness during competitions. Orientation diving is based on this training, leads to the application of basic diving skills, trains perseverance and determination, responsiveness and concentration, calls under high physical and mental stress courage, hardship and unconditional discipline. This sport forms and consolidates selfless camaraderie, but also provides intensive contact with nature. The purpose of orientation diving is that a competitor, when he has dived at the start, has to orient himself under compass, meter counter and depth gauge under water, in order to find individual landmarks anchored in the water; no body or equipment may break the water surface. On his own, with compressed air diver's equipment, diving mask and usually long competition fins, he completes the courses in a water depth of about three meters. On the surface, only bursting bubbles of its exhaled air and a streamlined buoy, secured to the body with a safety line, mark its path. Real achievements in the orientation diving can be compared only in the respective competition, best performances or records are not led. Understandable, because every body of water is different in visibility and current, wind and weather exert their influence, the route lengths differ in permitted tolerances - factors that directly affect the athletic result. According to an International Regulations of the SCAS World Cup, the disciplines M-Course (Orientation Diving without orientation points), 5-Point Orientation (Orientation Points) and Star Course (Orientation Diving with and without orientation points) in team competitions will refocus on Team Orientation Tendered card (Monk) and the team exercise; In addition, national regulations often contain additional disciplines. In the orientation diving ladies and men start in different classes. The minimum age is 16 years. A highlight in the previous balance sheet of GDR orientation divers were the successes at the 10th European Championships in 1984 in Austria dar. Martina Ocik, Claudia Schinzel and Ute Enge won European champion title.
