The history of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, founded 275 years ago, is very closely linked to the history of art in Austria. Highlights of the importance and activity of the Academy are at the same time high points of artistic creation in Austria, and even the artists working outside the organization of the Academy have direct and indirect relations with the first Kunstanstalt, have given new ideas for lively development with fruitful antitheses. The "Academy of Painting, Sculpting, Fortification, Perspective and Architectural Art" was founded by Peter Strudel in 1692, after successfully defending the danger of the Turks from Vienna, when more artists were needed with the following construction boom. From the beginning, the Academy was under imperial patronage and attracted the most famous artists of the time. For example, with the architect Otto Wagner, one of the most important pioneers of modern art has been working at the academy since 1894. Today, Austrian artists are called to all over the world. For two areas a leading position of Vienna has emerged - for the sculpture school Fritz Wotrubas and the circle of the "Viennese fantastic realists". The brand image shows the Rector of the Academy with a medal from the time of Maria Theresa.
