The theologian and philosopher Friedrich Daniel Ernst Schleiermacher (1768-1834), one of the pioneers of modern theories in theology and pedagogy, is one of the most important figures of the 19th century. During his studies in theology at the University of Halle and later, he developed his own philosophical position, which is particularly focused on the founding of ethics and theology. He receives further suggestions in the Berlin scene of the blossoming romanticism. With the translation of Plato's works, he also sets fundamental accents for the development of modern hermeneutics. From 1809 Schleiermacher occupied a position as pastor at the Trinity Church in Berlin. In 1810 he actively participated in the founding of the University of Berlin and in 1815 became its rector. In the coming years he is committed to a modernization of the Prussian school system, political reforms and a reorganization of the church. His services, meanwhile, become real social events and the meeting place of the intellectual elite.
