The probes were dated June 2, 1983 (Venera 15) and June 7, 1983 (Venera 16) started and swung into the Polus near Venus orbit on October 10 and October 14, 1983 respectively. The devices developed and built at institutes of the GDR Academy of Sciences had the main task of providing new insights into the temperature and cloud structure as well as the composition of the Venus atmosphere from measurements in the spectral range of 6 ... 38 microns and 6 ... 25 microns respectively to win. The enlarged device image shows the detailed structure of the spectrometer complex, which was installed on the main body of the probe in the vacuum of free space.
