It is 30.5 centimeters high, 24-carat gold-plated and a figure as elegant as coveted: Romy, a statuette named after the famous actress Romy Schneider, which is awarded for the 25th time as the Austrian TV and Film Award in 2014. The Romy was invented in 1989 by the film critic of the newspaper "KURIER", Rudolf John. Originally conceived as a pure television award, performances by German-speaking cinema are also honored today with the statuette, which John also wanted to be aesthetically beautifully designed and thus had her recreate a scene in the legendary film "The Swimming Pool", in which Romy Schneider flirts with her Dressed. Actors, presenters and showmasters are chosen by the public as favorites, the Romy is the only award of the German-speaking TV industry, which is awarded by the audience. These select from five or six nominations per category the winners. In the now 25 -year-old Romy story, there is a clear favorite: Armin Assinger got until 2013 eight times the Romy presented. Christiane Hörbiger and Ingrid Thurnher share second place with seven Romys each, Tobias Moretti took home the coveted statuette six times. It was he who gave the shortest acceptance speech in Romy history: "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. "Were enough of the words. In contrast to Kathrin Zechner, who gave the presentation a 20-minute speech. The most unusual and romantic words Wolfgang Fierek found: He stopped before the eyes of all present and hundreds of thousands of television viewers for the hand of his partner. Normally, the Romy shines in gold - with two exceptions: The lifework is awarded annually platinum romys. And Reginald von Ravenhorst aka television dog Rex once got a wooden Romy in the muzzle. Over the years, the Romy gala became a society event and a meeting place for the domestic TV and film industry. Glitz and glamor à l'Authiche as well as local Oscar flair brings the award ceremony every year - and attracts so many in front of the television screens. It is less well known that founder Rudolf John wanted to create a prize with the Romy that would bring those people who usually perform at the desks and behind the camera to the curtain. After the audience knows this naturally less well, vote not the audience here, but the so-called Romy Academy. This consists of former winners and selects from the triple proposal of a jury. Awards include the Best Cinema Documentary, the Best Producer for TV Movies, the Best Director, the Best Program Idea, the Best Camera or the Best Book - and honors those who are often in the shadow.
