On the oldest cultural soil in the heart of Carinthia, in Ossiach and nearby Villach, since July 25, 1969, one of Austria's most important cultural events, the "Carinthian Summer", takes place annually. Its founders were the pastor of Ossiach, Jakob Stingl, and the musician and manager Helmut Wobisch. In 1970 the association Carinthischer Sommer was founded. In 1974 church music performances conquered that programmatic new territory, which gives the Carinthian summer its special character until today. Since the death of Helmut Wobisch in 1980, Dr. med. Gerda Fröhlich as director of the Carinthian Summer, which sets new priorities in its programming every year with increasing international importance.
