"Gajus Gracchus", a play by the Stockerauer poet Bruno Kühnl, which was performed in Stockerau in the year 1963 in the context of a Stadterhebungs jubilee, stood at the beginning of the Stockerauer Festspiele. Two names are closely connected with the idea of playing open-air theater on the square in front of the baroque parish church in Stockerau: Josef Wondrak, the then mayor, and Otto Kroneder, director of the "Wiener Komödie", director and director of the first hour of this festival. Over the past 25 years, 315 theatrical performances have taken place during the Stockerau Festival, which has attracted over 160,000 spectators. A variety of cultural activities, including in the cultural center "Belveder Schlössl", has contributed to Stockerau's reputation as a festival and cultural city in Lower Austria.
