The conclusion of the State Treaty in 1955 secured Austria's sovereignty over the air. Now one could think of the construction of an Austrian airline. As late as 1955, two airlines were founded, the "Air Austria" and the "Austrian Airways". With the support of foreign airlines, a separate airline should be created. However, before it came to a start of the flight operations, both companies were merged on April 4, 1957 to form a single company: Austrian Airlines, Österreichische Luftverkehrs AG. The articles of incorporation of this company were signed on September 30, 1957. The new company's fleet consisted of four Vickers Viscounts 779 chartered by Norwegian shipowner Fred Olsen. On March 31, 1958, after more than twenty years, a red-white-red airliner rose from the runway of the airport for the first time Vienna / Schwechat. The stamp motif of the special postage stamp shows a DC-9 Super 80 aircraft, of which eight were already in operation at Austrian Airlines in 1983.
