The Austrian Association for Social Tourism was founded in March 1953. In 1978 he celebrated his 25th anniversary. At the same time, the most modern holiday center for large families in Ossiach (Carinthia), the third holiday center of the association, was opened. On these occasions, the Austrian Post Office issued this special postage stamp "25 years of social tourism". In the post-war period, some organizations, including the Austrian Trade Union Confederation, recognized that workers and employees, some of whom had only returned from captivity, could be helped with cheap holiday and recreational stays in rural areas. The subsequent land-based activities of that time were the first decisive steps towards social tourism. Subsequently, in 1953, the Austrian Association for Social Tourism was founded.
