On July 26, 1946, the National Council passed the 1st Law on Nationalization. This law enabled the nationalization of the most important companies in the iron, coal and oil industries as well as the banking industry and served the planned reconstruction of the Austrian basic industry. The first special postage stamp from this series depicts the Styrian Erzberg. Already at the end of Roman times iron ore was extracted, smelted and transported to the south. In the 12th century, the Erzberg then appeared in various documents and writings and experienced end of the 17th century, after the Turkish Wars, a special period of prosperity. In 1807, the Erzberg was placed under state supremacy, and in 1881 the "Austrian Alpine Montange Society" was founded. Although the Styrian Erzberg has a strong competition at the present time, it was able to maintain its enormous significance for the Austrian iron and steel industry.
