Ludwig Feuerbach, one of the most important philosophers of the 19th century, was born on July 28, 1804 in Landshut. He studied Protestant theology first in Heidelberg and later in Berlin. There he switched to philosophy and became a student of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel. According to his religious-philosophical writings, for example »Wesen des Christentums« (1841), God is a pure projection of man. For then man can not endure being imperfect and finite, and therefore invents a perfect and omnipotent being. Feuerbach's ideals were the unity of man with nature and the understanding between people.
