Heinrich Hoffmann was born on June 13, 1809 in Frankfurt am Main. The author and poet became world famous as the author of the children's classic "Struwwelpeter". The book was first published in 1845 under the title "Funny stories and funny pictures with 15 beautifully colored plates for children from 3-6 years". Hoffmann extended the book to 1858 still further stories. The picture book was published in more than 40 languages and 70 German dialects. The versatile Heinrich Hoffmann also worked as a liberal politician in the preparation of the first German National Assembly in the Frankfurt Paulskirche in 1848. As a neurologist, he introduced modern psychiatry in Frankfurt. There he died on September 20, 1894.
