The son of the wood turner Jakob Raimann Ferdinand Raimund is born on June 1, 1790 in Vienna Mariahilf. He began after the death of his parents a confectioner's apprenticeship, which, contrary to expectations, solidified his love of the theater. His master had a license to sell refreshments in the Burgtheater. Already in 1814 he played in the Josefstadt, from where he was engaged in 1817 fixed to the Leopoldstädter Theater. There he was appointed director in 1821. There followed years of great stage successes, such as "The Farmer as a Millionaire" (1826), which established his reputation as the greatest comedy poet of the suburban stages of his time. In 1885, almost forty years after Raimund's death, he made his first appearance in the Burgtheater with "Der Verwender", where his works today form an integral part of the repertoire.
