On October 12, 1810, the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig with Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in Munich was the starting point for today's Oktoberfest. The wedding, celebrated at the time as the »Volksfest«, ended on 17 October 1810 with a horse race on a meadow at the gates of Munich, which was baptized in honor of the bride »Theresienwiese«. The decision to repeat the horse race the following year gave rise to the tradition of the "Oktoberfest". Today Munich's hospitality, state-of-the-art rides and nostalgic folk festival attractions invite you to the world's biggest folk festival. The combination of a traditional festival and a major international event turns Oktoberfest into Evergreen - for 200 years.
