Twenty Years Warsaw Treaty, Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance For the 20th anniversary of the Warsaw Treaty, the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues a multicolored postage stamp. No special First Day Cover Twenty Years Warsaw Treaty On May 14, 1975, the 20th anniversary of the "Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance" was celebrated. The Warsaw Treaty Organization set itself the goal of coordinating foreign policy actions in the struggle to ensure the common security of the socialist states in order to preserve and consolidate peace in Europe and around the world. Above all, the international class struggle situation also required the cooperation of the member states in the military field in order to protect their sovereignty and independence with a united force and to counter the aggressions of imperialism as effectively as possible. The imperialist states, especially the US, had sparked the Cold War and pursued a policy of "roll back," the roll-back of socialist development. They had included the FRG in the imperialist pact system of NATO and supported the revanchist policies of the ruling circles in this country. Thus, in the heart of Europe, on the western flank of socialism, a source of danger for the maintenance of world peace was created. With the conclusion of the Warsaw Treaty, the socialist states created a decisive precondition for curbing the imperialist forces that were pressing for war. Thanks to the consistent peace policy of the Soviet Union and the other socialist states, disarmament issues became a permanent topic of the United Nations and bilateral and multilateral deliberations of government representatives of states with different social systems. The fixed course of the countries of the Warsaw Treaty for the implementation of a policy of relaxation and understanding in the world has received increasing recognition and support among working people on all continents. The world peace movement took a big boost. The main reasons for this were the growing resistance and massive mass actions against the production, storage and use of nuclear weapons as well as against the remilitarization plans of the international monopoly capital. Decisive for the growth of the peace forces was the strengthening of the socialist world system with the Soviet Union at the top. The fulfillment and over-achievement of long-term plans in various sectors of the economy ensured the continuous development of socialism in all spheres of social life. The military superiority of the Warsaw Pact states for the protection of their peaceful socialist construction could be further developed. In contrast, the world of capital was and is characterized by profound contradictions. The fundamental contradiction of capitalism between the social character of production and the private capitalist appropriation of created values continues to intensify, and in the present day it is becoming extremely acute. The collapse of the imperialist colonial system accelerated. The two decades of existence of the Warsaw Treaty Organization prove that the systematic realization of the jointly defined tasks has led to lasting and stable successes of world socialism. The socialist alliance of the member states proved its worth and thwarted the attacks of imperialism on the achievements of the socialist states. The power of socialism has grown ever since. The National Liberation Movement received strong backing. Especially as a result of the implementation of the peace program adopted by the Twenty-second Party Congress of the CPSU, all the progressive forces in the world have flocked even closer to the socialist community led by the Soviet Union. The diplomatic blockade against the GDR was broken. Between many states of socialism and capitalism, relationships developed on the basis of the principles of peaceful coexistence. Thanks to the growing strength of the states of the Warsaw Treaty, a turn to relaxation has been achieved in relations between states of different social orders. However, this development could only take place because the armies of the Warsaw State Parties - modern and well-equipped, uniformly led and of high moral quality - always protect this policy safely and reliably. At present, they are a crucial factor in rendering the tendency of detente irreversible against all efforts of certain circles of international monopoly capital. We are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Warsaw Treaty system, conscious of its significant historic achievements in securing peace and bringing the socialist states closer together. At present, Europe is experiencing the longest peace period of our century. The foreign policy of the socialist states will continue to be coordinated in the future, and the successful development of the socialist community will continue to enjoy reliable and secure protection in the future. The Warsaw Treaty makes a decisive contribution to the plan to take further steps in fulfilling the world-historic mission of the working class.
