On May 29, 2014, it's that time again: the smell of gasoline, loud engines and a megaparty make the otherwise idyllic town of Eisenerz the center of enduro sport for four days. The spectacle attracts more challengers and visitors every year and is one of the toughest and biggest offroad races in the world. This is summed up on the current special stamp "Erzbergrodeo". In Europe, enduro racing takes place virtually in camera, when Andreas Werth and Karl Katoch decided in 1994 to open up the fascination of the "Gatschhupfer" to a wider audience through a solid race without much bureaucracy or rules. With the Styrian Erzberg, the right venue can be found quickly, and already in the following year, 120 bikers will start, who will go to their utmost to conquer the mountain. The Erzberg does not just challenge its challengers for its steep slopes - even steep descents, narrow forest passages and scree deserts demand a lot from the riders. The off-road event speaks like wildfire, as early as 1999, over 1,000 riders from all parts of the world are starting. More and more visitors are attracted to the rodeo, who, in addition to the daring competition, do not want to miss the subsequent parties. The program of the four-day major event starts with the infamous "Generali Iron Road Prologue", in which 1,500 bikers go to the start - only a fully functional machine is required. The rules are simple: On 13.5 kilometers of gravel road it is as fast and accident-free as possible to reach the summit. Dangers on Friday and Saturday, the better performance is scored, and the best 500 qualify for the bone-hard "Red Bull Hare Scramble". Here, the drivers have to bring their machines 30 kilometers over mountain, rocks, mud and vegetation in four hours - but most of them already fail on the first slopes. As a trophy, neither money nor a cup beckons, but a piece of Erzberg in the form of a stone. Since 2009, the "Kärcher Rocket Ride" has caused an additional sensation - the racers are sent on a three-part steep slope, which they should master in the best time. At the "Freestyle MX-Party", the world's best motocross freestylers will show off their breathtaking tricks, while DJs and cocktails will provide a moody transition to the subsequent legendary Rider's Party. On Friday, May 30th, the entire field under the leadership of Karl Katoch sets out for Eisenerz in the evening - with this motorcycling trip, the train thanks the locals who have been actively supporting and making possible the Erzbergrodeo for 20 years now.
