Although the IAEA is autonomous, it is a member of the United Nations system and reports on its activities to the General Assembly and other United Nations bodies. The International Atomic Energy Agency acts throughout the world as a promoter and helper, leader and adviser in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. It has developed basic standards for radiation protection, which also take into account the recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection. The involvement of this organization in the area of ​​technical cooperation with developing countries is particularly strong. In 1970, the International Nuclear Documentation System INIS was created by the IAEA to ensure the international exchange of information in the field of nuclear energy.
