The idea and founding of the SOS Children's Villages are attributed to the Austrian Hermann Gmeiner. Even from a large family, which lost her mother early, Gmeiner decided after the Second World War to relieve the plight of homeless, abandoned children. He helped them by giving them a home and a family so that they could grow stronger physically, mentally and spiritually. Gmeiner was looking for simple, maternal women who wanted to take over a Kinderdorffamilie with nine children. They should replace their own mothers with the children, their offspring should regard the other children as brothers and sisters and grow up in an orderly family. With an initial capital of 600 shillings, Gmeiner founded the first SOS Children's Village in Tyrol, which housed 1950 refugee children. Gmeiner's idea of charity was very well received. Today, there are 65 SOS Children's Villages in 26 countries around the world, including 36 in Europe. In Austria itself, there is an SOS Children's Village in every state. As a sign of understanding and reconciliation between people, it is to be understood that in Gmeiner SOS Children's Villages children of different nationalities, race and religion live. Hermann Gmeiner received numerous awards and was nominated by Albert Schweitzer for the Nobel Peace Prize. The brand image shows a laughing girl.
