Twenty years after the end of the Second World War, Austria has fully recovered from the consequences of the war, thanks to the determination with which political, economic and social reconstruction was carried out. Already in December 1945, the first elections, at the same time the first in Europe after the end of the war, took place. In view of the tremendous problems of reconstruction, a coalition of the Austrian People's Party and the Austrian Socialist Party, according to the election results, was the only basis for a functioning government. Due to the terrible war damage, the economy had to start from scratch. A not insignificant help was the introduction of social partnership, which brought social peace to Austria during the construction period. Without the international aid of the United Nations and without the Marshall Plan, reconstruction would not have been possible to that extent. With the conclusion of the State Treaty on October 26, 1955, Austria became a sovereign state again, and the four occupying powers left the country after ten years. Two figures illustrate the reconstruction: From 1945 to 1964, 625,000 flats were rebuilt, and today the total annual Austrian exports amount to 32 billion schillings. The brand image brings the juxtaposition of destroyed by war action houses and new buildings, as it were a symbol of the 20-year reconstruction.
