With the invention of a small internal combustion engine, Gottlieb Daimler made it possible to mass-produce motorized vehicles. He was born on March 17, 1834 in Schorndorf near Stuttgart. Coming from a humble background, he worked his way up from factory worker to engineer. During some stays in England, he developed into an expert in production organization. During his work as a senior employee of a Reutlinger Maschinenfabrik, he met his partner, the designer Wilhelm Maybach. In 1885, both presented the first viable vehicle engine, with which they built the first motorcycle, the first four-wheeled automobile and the first motor boat in the world. Daimler founded its own company in 1890, where engines and vehicles were built. It is the nucleus of today's Daimler AG. Gottlieb Daimler died on March 6, 1900 in Stuttgart.
