Hans Kudlich was born in 1823, the youngest of eight children, to a wealthy but robotic farmer in Lobenstein (today Uvalno / Czech Republic). On July 24, 1848, Hans Kudlich, as the then youngest deputy of the Austrian Reichstag, submitted an application for the liberation of the peasants of Zehent, Robot and all subjugated persons. The motion read: "The high imperial assembly may declare: From now on, the subject of subjugation, together with all rights and obligations deriving therefrom, is suspended, subject to the provisions as to whether and how compensation should be paid." On 29.8.1848 the Basic Relief Act, which was based on Kudlich's original application, was passed and promulgated on 7.9.1848. On September 9th, it was sanctioned by Emperor Ferdinand I. The liberation of the peasants benefited some 12 million rural nationals, and the peasant family members and the servants also indirectly benefited from this important reform work. Hans Kudlich died November 11, 1917 at the age of 94 in Hoboken / USA.
