The Austrian writer, actor, singer, playwright and satirist Johann Nepomuk Nestroy (1801 - 1862) was undoubtedly one of the most important representatives of the folk comedy of Altwien. The motive of the special stamp appearing to the 150th anniversary of death adorns a dating from 1857 lithograph by Melchior Fritsch, which shows Nestroy as Willibald in his burlesque "The bad boys in school". In addition, the quote "The world is the true school, because that's where you learn everything by itself" is reproduced from this work based on Nestroy's transcribed original manuscript on the mark. Personal details: Johann Nepomuk Eduard Ambrosius Nestroy, so his full name, was born on 7 December 1801 in Vienna, the son of a court and court advocate. After graduation in 1817 he began to study philosophy at the University of Vienna, in 1820 he moved to the law school for two semesters. During this time he had his first appearances as a singer and actor on amateur stages, soon after he dropped out of college and devoted himself entirely to the art of the stage. After various engagements in Brno, Bratislava and Graz, he returned to Vienna in 1831, where he played until 1839 at the Theater an der Wien. This was followed by appearances at the Leopoldstädter Theater, which was later renamed the Carl Theater, before he leased in 1854 ebendiese venue and director. In 1860 he gave up this activity again and relocated to Graz. Nestroy's first great literary achievement-he wrote more than 80 plays altogether-was the fantastic comedy "The Evil Ghost Lumpacivagabundus or The Lousy Cloverleaf," a "sorcerer's song and song," as the subtitle puts it. Many other well-known works such as "At Ground and First Floor", "The Talisman", "Freedom in Crow's Angle", "Former Relationships" and of course "Jux he wants to make" enjoy to this day's greatest popularity and belong to the classical repertoire numerous important theaters throughout the German-speaking area. Probably through his theatrical experience and talent Nestroy was also a master of extemporization. This spontaneous improvised speech, in the middle of the performance, was always a thorn in the side of censorship at the time, because in this way he gained a public appeal for his socio-critical content. On May 25, 1862 Nestroy died at the age of 61 years of the consequences of a stroke in Graz. In his literary work, of course, he lives on today.
