Arrival of the Bavarian Princess Elisabeth von Wittelsbach, called "Sisi": On April 22, 1854, the steamboat "Franz Joseph" arrived in Nußdorf with the Emperor Bride. Up to the summit the Leopoldsberg was crowded with cheering people. The next day the bride arrived in the six-horse carriage - coming from the castle Favorita (today's "Theresianum") - to the Elisabeth Bridge, named after her and erected for her. where today the extended Kärntnerstraße flows into the Wiedner Hauptstraße - and further with the magnificent bridal train over the Wienfluss to the Graben and Kohlmarkt in the Burg.Hochzeitstag April 24, 1854: A tremendous "Cortège" (retinue) now formed on the way to the Augustinerkirche, led by Elisabeth led by her mother to the altar, where she was already expected by the Archbishop Rauscher in large assistance. After the blessing, all of them sang the hymn of Joseph Hadyn with the new text "Gott erhalte". Duchess Sophie, the mother of Franz Joseph, wrote in her diary: "... tea and supper with me between 10 and 11 o'clock ... Louise and I led the young bride to her room, leaving her alone with her mother until she went to bed, whereupon I went to see my son and led him to his wife, who, when I told her good night, gave her her pretty face framed by rich, beautiful hair hidden in the pillow. "Honeymoon in Laxenburg: During the couple's honeymoon in Laxenburg, part of the garden at the castle is cordoned off for the rest of the world.
