The railway line from Wiener Neustadt to Ödenburg (Sopron), which was ceremoniously opened on 20 August 1847, was the second railway line built on Hungarian territory and at the same time the first connection to the Austrian railway network. In 1838 planning and routing were started; In the spring of 1844 construction began. At a decision of the chief engineer Matthias Schönerer goes back the construction of the high valley translation before Mattersburg. This imposing viaduct with a length of 250 meters spans the Wulka valley and is a monument of technological history of supraregional importance. The track has a length of 31.9 km, of which the largest part is in 1921 newly created state of Burgenland. The state border is directly at the connection to the station Loipersdorf; only more Agendorf (Àgfalva) and the terminus Ödenburg (Sopron) lie on Hungarian territory.
