On June 1, 1816, the "Privileged Austrian National Bank" was founded. It was the mother institute of today's Austrian National Bank, which celebrated the 150th anniversary of her birthday. The bank was called "privileged" because it had the exclusive right of the emperor to issue banknotes that could be redeemed at any time in silver. In the 150 years of its existence, the bank had to face up to new social and political situations, the Austrian financial system after the two world wars repeatedly build to enable the economic recovery. If business management was carried out to the exclusion of the public until the middle of the last century, the Austrian National Bank received a particularly modern central bank law after the signing of the State Treaty. As a result, the National Bank is a limited liability company. This gives them the opportunity to respond to the significant economic and political changes of recent decades and to carry out the broad tasks that they are given in Austria as well as in international cooperation. The visual highlight of the triptych-like brand image on a tinted background forms in the center of the emblem in close conjunction with the Oe.N.B. Signum, whose laurel framing indicates the anniversary character.
