According to the 2nd National Law on State Legislation 1947, one of the main tasks of the Verbundgesellschaft is to ensure the balance between electricity demand and production throughout Germany. To this end, it must take over the electricity and import electricity generated by the special and interstate marginal power plants, forward it and, if necessary, distribute it to the national companies and large industrial customers. In connection with this task, Verbundgesellschaft also has to control the export and import of electricity to and from Austria. In 1962 Austria had a total of around 43,000 million kilowatt hours per year of expandable hydroelectric power, of which up to this time around one quarter had been developed. The built in the Alpine valleys memory are usually very far away from the main centers of electricity consumption. The transmission lines from the large power plants to the consumption centers have voltages of 110,000 and 220,000 volts and more because of the long distances. These high-voltage lines are grouped under the name "Verbundnetz". Substations will be set up at the junctions of this high-voltage grid, in which the high transmission voltage will be reduced to the distribution voltages by means of transformers (transformers). The brand image shows the substation Bisamberg near Vienna, which was put into operation in 1951.
