The electricity industry in 1945 was in a catastrophic state. Extensive destruction in the wake of the war had brought the energy supply of Austria almost completely to a standstill. Repair and new construction in the electricity sector could only be contested by the public sector. Thus, on 26 March 1947, the Austrian National Council passed the law on the nationalization of the Austrian electricity industry. The large-scale production of electrical energy was transferred to special companies, which had to be at least 50 percent federal owned as joint stock companies. Since then, joint stock companies, whose share rights are wholly federally owned, have been responsible for the large-scale distribution of Austrian energy. For this purpose, it builds and operates long-distance transmission lines. National companies provide the last distribution in the respective federal state. In addition, there are municipal utilities (in the provincial capitals) and private facilities, which are industrial power plants with their own power generation. The large power plant Kaprun is a storage power plant. The power plant and the two dams shown on this mark - Dross Barrier and Mooserbodenblock - were built between 1952 and 1955.
