The Danube power plant Ybbs-Persenbeug is a run-of-river power plant. In contrast to storage power plants, it uses flowing water and its gradient. Ybbs-Persenbeug installed 200,000 kilowatts of power in six generator sets in 1962, delivering an average of 1,250 million kilowatt hours per year. The construction of this power plant was already started during the war, but then stopped again. Only in 1954 was the construction of the special company Österreichische Donaukraftwerke A.G. continued and ended in mid-1959. To overcome the barrage, two lock chambers were built for shipping. At that time, 15 power plants were planned on the Danube line, whose total output would reach more than two million kilowatt hours and their annual production on average more than 14 billion kilowatt hours.
