The success of the nationalization concept in the first years of its introduction was remarkable. The total number of workers and employees employed in nationalized enterprises increased more than doubled from 56,060 in 1946 to 131,000 in 1961. Production had reached a peak again. Iron ore production in 1961 was 3.5 times more than 7 times higher, and crude steel production at 3.5 million tonnes was 16 times higher than at the time of nationalization. The developments in exports were also very good. In 1960, for example, the nationalized industry was able to increase its share of Austria's total exports to 28 percent. At the same time, by systematically improving the conditions of production in nationalized farms, productivity could be increased by almost double. The brand image shows the LD steel plant VOEST Linz and thus one of the most important vehicles of this upward trend.
