From 5 to 9 September 2001, the Union Network International (UNI) invites delegates from all countries to the 1st World Congress in Berlin. It is under the theme »Global Action @ UNI - For the People in the New Economy«. With nearly 15 million members in 937 unions in 153 countries worldwide, UNI is one of the largest and most important international trade union organizations. It was founded on 1 January 2000 as a merger of four international organizations and represents the interests of workers in the modern services sector. Its goal is to speak to multinational companies, governments and institutions with a stronger voice than individual unions could.
