The founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud, was born on May 6, 1856 in Freiburg in Moravia. After graduating in 1873, he first studied philosophy and biology at the University of Vienna before devoting himself to medicine. His first scientific work dealt with the use of cocaine, the addictive nature of which was not yet known at that time, in the treatment of diseases of the human nervous system and pain elimination. In 1886 Freud was appointed Privatdozent and after his marriage to Martha Bernays in 1886 he opened his own practice in Vienna. As a result, Freud turned to the use of hypnosis in the treatment of his patients. He developed the basic elements of psychoanalysis, as a theory and a cure, between 1895 and 1905. Freud remained a scientific revolutionary until his death (1939). From the wealth of his scientific work, the complete work comprises 18 volumes, only a few examples are selected as representative: "Totem and Taboo" (1913) for anthropology, "lectures on the introduction to psychoanalysis" (1917) for the representations of the theory, " The ego and the id "(1923) for the further development of psychoanalysis, the" discomfort in culture "(1930) for cultural theory and the" man Moses "(1939) for cultural history.
