The ÖAMTC (Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club) is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year: in 1896 the Austrian Touring Club (ÖTC) was founded, in 1898 the Austrian Automobile Club (ÖAC). These two merged in 1946 to form the ÖAMTC, which today represents the interests of motorists and cyclists and offers its two million members numerous services. Since 1954, there is the roadside assistance, which can be reached in Austria since 1986 with the emergency telephone number 120 - thus the number 120 in 2016 even has a double meaning. The "Yellow Angels" - the name comes from the yellow sidecar motorcycles with which the first helpers were on the road - have been tirelessly available ever since, and today even around the clock in the name of mobility. In addition to driving technology centers, the current transport service, a travel agency, various insurance offers and numerous technical services in the 120 bases, the ÖAMTC also offers its members legal assistance. Of particular importance is the ÖAMTC air rescue: the "Christophorus" helicopters have been in operation since 1983 and have already saved countless lives. With the "protection letter" the members have comprehensive services of the association in case of accidents and other incidents at home and abroad available - for the "good feeling to be with the club" is thus taken care of. About as old as the traffic club is the legendary Marcus car pictured on the stamp. Siegfried Marcus (1831-1898) was an automotive pioneer, innovative inventor and ingenious designer, who produced numerous engines and other technical apparatus, tools and instruments in addition to his car. Since 1898, the Marcus car has been owned by the ÖAMTC and has been on loan since 1915 at the Technical Museum in Vienna. The brand's subject shows the Marcus car in comparison with a transparent study of a modern vehicle, reflecting the tremendous technological advances in the 120 years since the ÖAMTC passed.
