The Grenzlandbahn Spielfeld Straß - Bad Radkersburg celebrates 2010 a round anniversary: Exactly 125 years ago, 1885, this railway line was given its purpose. The € 0.65 special stamp is an impressive reminder of this proud "birthday". The brand image, designed by Ernst Sladek, shows both a historic steam locomotive of yesteryear and a modern train set of today, thus reflecting the history and development of the Southern Styrian border railway in an original pictorial language. The Grenzlandbahn Spielfeld Straß - Bad Radkersburg was, as already mentioned above, opened in 1885; five years later, in 1890, it was extended to Luttenberg. During this time up to six passenger trains ran daily on the route. For the 31-kilometer, scenic drive between the pitch and Bad Radkersburg the train took just over an hour, for the 26 kilometers from Luttenberg to Bad Radkersburg about 50 minutes. (Incidentally: Later, this route was recorded under the schedule number 56 - the association of railway enthusiasts in Bad Radkersburg maintains this tradition even today in his name "Club 56" in a charming way.) The city of Bad Radkersburg is now located directly on the Border with Slovenia. Originally, the settlement stretched over both banks of the Mur. The Treaty of St. Germain after the First World War made the Mur the state border of what was at the time the newly founded state of Yugoslavia and lost more than half of its territory. Today, of course, due to the European Union, the border has lost its former importance - you can easily walk to Gornja Radgona (Ober-Radkersburg). Meanwhile, the so-called "Pyhrn Motorway" (A9) with the heavily used border crossing Spielfeld / Šentilj in Slovenia leads through the common playing field, which counts about 1,000 inhabitants. On the occasion of the planned jubilee celebrations - to the delight of all railway fans - among other things also a historical special train, namely the legendary "Blue Lightning" (diesel railcar 5145), will be used.
