On February 9, 1863, five men met in Geneva: Henri Dunant, General Guillaume Henri Dufour, the doctors Theodore Maunoir and Louis Appia, and the lawyer Gustave Moynier, to found an "International Aid Committee for the Wounded". From this "Committee of the Five" has emerged today's "International Committee of the Red Cross". The International Red Cross Conference, which includes the signatories of the Geneva Conventions, the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the League of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross, today has a significant organizational role global orientation of this auxiliary institution. At the 1965 Conference, the principles of the Red Cross were adopted: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntariness, unity and universality.
