In 1975, the Austrian stamp celebrated a very special birthday. It had been exactly 125 years since the postal administration had issued the first Austrian stamps on 1 June 1850. These stamps issued at the time are today highlights of every collection. As early as May 6, 1840, the first brands in the world had been issued in Great Britain. But Austria would have been honored in 1836, four years before the postal reform introduced by Rowland Hill in England. Even then, the deputy accountant at the State Treasury in Agram, Laurenz Koschier, the General Court Chamber in Vienna had proposed the introduction of a letter stamp system. The Hofkammer Decree of 11 May 1836 acknowledged the commendable endeavor to be useful to the Postanstalt, but its proposals were not used. It was not until 1849, the then Trade Minister Baron Bruck presented to the Emperor, the applications for reform of the "mail and Fahrposttarifes", which were then approved in the same year by this. The brand image shows three brands from different periods. A 9 Kreuzer mark 1850 of the Empire of Austria, the mark to a half crown from the first stamp series of the Republic of Austria from the year 1922 and the 3-groschen mark of the first series of the resurrected Austria from the year 1945.
