Berlin Lenin Square (70 pfennig value) On November 7, 1968, the 51st anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution, the Chairman of the State Council of the GDR and First Secretary of the Central Committee of the SED, Walter Ulbricht, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new Berlin Lenin square. Until the 100th birthday of Lenin, his ensemble of buildings will be completed in the main design: with a 17-, 21- and 25-storey residential tower group, which is the tallest and largest of its kind in the GDR, and with an interesting ring buildings. The center of the square is a monumental, more than 17 -meter-high Lenin monument made of granite, created by the Soviet sculptor, Prof. Nikolai Tomski, and whose solemn inauguration for the anniversary birthday is imminent. The series of stamps by which the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the GDR honored Lenin on the occasion of his 100th birthday honors in particular his close relations with the German workers' movement and the influence of his work and the honoring of his personality in the first German workers' and peasants' Country.
