Hannah Arendt is one of the displaced Jewish thinkers whose work has met with great international resonance to this day. She was born on October 14, 1906 in Hanover, but grew up in Königsberg in East Prussia. After graduation she studied Protestant theology, philosophy and Greek philology in Marburg. As a dedicated Jewish activist, she fled Germany in 1933. Until 1940 she worked in Paris and then went to the USA, where she worked as a publicist and taught political science and philosophy at renowned universities. Her book "Eichmann in Jerusalem" caused a worldwide sensation (1964). Since the 1950s, she has publicly commented on political issues in Germany and the US as critical intellectuals. Hannah Arendt died in 1975 in New York.
