Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 in Ulm. In 1896 he completed his Abitur in Aarau / Switzerland, obtained his diploma in physics and mathematics in Zurich in 1900 and worked at the Patent Office in Bern from 1902 to 1909. He taught briefly as a professor at both the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and at the German-speaking University of Prague, before returning to Germany in 1914 and being appointed professor at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin. After the seizure of power by the National Socialists in 1933 he feared because of his Jewish faith reprisals and therefore left Germany forever. He spent the rest of his life in Princeton, USA, where he died on April 18, 1955.
